06 Jan Christian Bale Thanks Satan For Inspiring His Portrayal Of Dick Cheney
Sunday night (January 6th), Christian Bale took home the Golden Globe award for best actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy for his portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice. In his acceptance speech, Bale threw a strong jab at the subject of the film and decided to make his feelings about Cheney very clear.
“Thank you to Satan for giving me inspiration on how to play this role,” said Bale as he accepted his trophy.
The film already faced much backlash about what critics deemed to be a biased and fragmented biopic about the politician, but that didn’t stop Bale from continuing to dig into Cheney and other conservative politicians while he was at it.
Referring to director Adam McKay, Bale says that his thought process of selecting Bale must have been something along the lines of, “I’ve got to find somebody who can be absolutely charisma-free and reviled by everybody and so it’s got to be Bale in it.”
“I’ll be cornering the market on charisma-free a—-,” Bale added.”What do you think, Mitch McConnell next?”
Regardless of just where that inspiration came from, Bale was committed to the role, gaining 60 pounds for the part and has also earned SAG and Critics’ Choice Awards for his portrayal of Cheney.
