(New Written Interview) KB The General Talks Music And New Project
1. KB The General, how did you get your rap name?
Well in the army a General is someone who has experienced battle and can now lead. So im the General in the music business when it comes to my operation. I not only know how to create a song from start to finish, i know how to mix and engineer records, shoot music videos, and executive produce. Also my grand father was in the army and everyone called him “The General” and he wasn’t an official General in command.
2. KB The General, how long have you been doing music and what made you start doing music?
I’ve been doing music for at least 7 years. Ive always wanted to create music the first day it touch my ears. I wrote my first song when i was 13 years old and just kept trying to find new ways to get my hands on equipment and the likes. So i got a piano from a teacher at my highschool and started making beats. I reached college and got Fl studios and started making better beats. After awhile, i didn’t have anybody to rap over my beats so i decided to start taking rapping more seriously. As the years progressed i slowly stopped making beats and begin focusing most of my attention on rapping.
3. KB The general, you just dropped a video for “Won’t Land.” What is the concept behind this record and how long did it take you to create this video?
The concept basically came about because I felt like I put alot of time and effort into posting official content on social media to help promote my business/brand. Women (Not all of course please dont attack me ladies…lol) wont even pay attention to real talent, but willl expect everybody to be on their page when they have no real content to offer. So wont land is basically saying the things women think they are attracting online might not necessarily be coming off the way they attended. Create some real busniess so when we look its more to see than just an attractive face or body. And I wrote it from my perspective as a man, but i see guys doing the same thing. They’ll be online doing the same thing posting endless selfies and looking for attention but have nothing to offer. So i can hear a girl doing a remix with the alternative perspective. Either way, people post things online looking for attention and once they capture the audience, there’s really nothing they have to provide. No real talent to display.
4. KB The General, did you have any other ideas for the video or did you guys go on the first idea you had?
The video was actually apart of a media spa day that was done by Alex Acosta who is FloRida’s official camera man. So at the media spa day there were 3 different set ups available and you had to choose. I paid more money and chose two. I normally do themes behind my videos but given the situation we had to make it do what it do.
5. KB The General , if you were to do a remix to “Won’t Land” and you could pick 3 of the top artist in the world. Who would you pick and what do you feel they would bring different to the record?
This is a great question… I can hear 2 Chainz, Cardi B, and Gucci Mane. I feel like 2 Chainz would offer comic relief and delivers those hard hitting bars matching the concept. I think Cardi would offer the female perspective on the guys doing the same things and just be fun for the record. I think Gucci Mane would provide that smooth calculated lyrics at the same time offering his witty bars. I can hear a lot more, but we’ll keep it at 3.
6. KB The General, where do you feel hip hop is going in the future?
I think hip hop is living in the mixtape era and entering the visuals and singles department. I feel like a lot of people barely listen to music or won’t pay it much attention unless they know it has a video or a video might be produced from the track. But i see hip hop continuing to elevate. I plan on bringing back some of that originality its been missing.
7. KB The General, where do you see your brand and career in the next 5 years?
I see myself/brand being spoken about with the best of them. I see myself touring with top artist and creating music with some of the greats i respect in the game. I see my brand helping out the less fortunate communities, creating opportunities for kids in the inner cities, especially D.C, my hometown, and being a worldwide brand recognized with Bad boys, ROC, Quality Control, Def Jams, and so forth. I just want to make a positive impact and be able to help some of the creators i know take it to the next level.
