“Watson & Holmes” Reviewed So Poorly That Sony Tried To Sell It To Netflix

Holmes & Watson is one of the worse reviewed films of all time. It currently has a score of 9% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell, and was expected to be a hilarious reunion after the two stars killed it in Step Brothers. Instead, they may have delivered the worse movie of their careers. The film, which dropped on Christmas, pulled in $6.4 million, and is expected to gross between $18-$20 million during its theatrical run. The budget for the movie was $42 million. According to Deadline, screen tests for the film were so abysmal that Netflix didn’t even want to pick up the film.

Sony tried offering the streaming giant the film instead of placing it in theaters, but Netflix passed. There is great content on Netflix, but the site also features some movies that aren’t even worth a trailer view. The fact that the streaming giant turned down a Will Ferrell film is a testament to how horrible Holmes & Watson is. Deadline reports that Sony ended up selling its share of the movie to Mimran Schur Pictures, opting to take a minority stake in an attempt to recover their losses early. With Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns in theaters right now, Holmes & Watson may have a tough time grossing the estimated total.
